One piece of gear I have started using lately is the adjustable bag rider from Long Shot Precision. I have to say, it has made a world of difference when I’ve been shooting off the bench or prone. When I shoot from those positions, I typically use a bipod and a rear bag. If you have ever used a similar setup, you know it can be a challenge to maintain stability on target for a few reasons. Depending on your bipod, it may not have infinite adjustments. The bipods I use have detents for quick extension during matches. Which is great for getting close, but you usually have to manipulate a little to get on target. If your bipod does have infinite adjust from lock wheels, it usually takes a lot of time to get exactly right.
With the bipod getting you close, the rest of the adjustments come from the rear. With a rear bag, that means squeezing and adjusting the fill inside to move and set the rear of the gun. It works and can be very stable, but still requires manipulation and resetting between shots because the fill moves under recoil. And depending on how much adjustment is needed, it could require a lot of influence to keep the bag in place.
Where the adjustable bag rider fixes this issue is in its name, adjustable. Unlike a standard bag rider, this one has an adjustable height base that is adjusted with the thumbscrew in the main housing. This allows for essentially infinite set points within the height range. That, along with a dual dowel pin guide system, keeps everything lined up and in place when you get dialed on target. because the bag rider is adjustable, the rear bag can be settled and the fill stabilized. This means it doesn’t shift as much under recoil and doesn’t need to be squeezed into place. For long range shots it allows you to dial your elevation exactly where needed without manipulating the bag, and it stays there.
Check out the video below for a demonstration and walkthrough, then head to their website and check them out. They have multiple options for mounting to accommodate most platforms.
